New methodological advancements that will contribute to improving impact assessments of sustainability initiatives were recently unveiled by COSA and its partner the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) at the ISEAL meeting on ‘Demonstrating and Improving Poverty Impacts’ an initiative funded by the Ford Foundation. The work – spearheaded by researchers Mica Bennett of COSA and Lydia Wairegi of IITA seeks to understand how coffee farmers in Kenya are affected by multiple certification and training initiatives. The work leveraged qualitative and quantitative elements to conduct contribution analysis with a difference in differences design. This innovative approach will be the basis of a toolkit that will be made available to all ISEAL members and the general public in early 2016.
