The Natural Resources Institute, COSA’s newest partner, is leading a randomized control trial (RCT) in India to understand the impacts of the sustainability efforts made by the Better Cotton Initiative, the world’s largest certifier of cotton production. This will be the first large-scale effort of its kind in cotton and combines many COSA-based indicators with advanced assessment methods. Ravinder Kumar, Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Specialist at NRI leads the work and has been instrumental to the partnership. He acknowledged COSA’s “…great help in improving our research and instruments.” The work is advised by 3IE and ISEAL as well as the Gujarat Institute of Development Research and Centre for Economic and Social Studies. COSA’s International Expert Technical Committee for Cotton Sustainability Metrics may also contribute to the research in its later stages.
